Gunta Stolzl

This is the work of Gunta Stolzl, she studied at Bauhaus in the early 1920's. The pieces above are designs for a Jacquard woven wall hanging. The top image is from 1928-29 and the piece below that is from 1927.

I came across the work while researching for a project I was doing and I'm very pleased I did. The colours, geometry and layout of the designs is brilliant. It's also nice to see Stolzl drawings for the wall hangings, they show a much more accessible side to the geometry which can become very harsh when designed on a computer. The pieces look like they could have been designed yesterday and in that respect are forward looking and timeless, which is  something all designers try to achieve.
